Emotion in Art - IB MYP5 E-portfolio (Piece 2)

  Layout: Artistic intention:      This layout aims to show to the audience that there are many stereotypes against people who don’t show emotions openly. In this artwork the butterfly is sitting on a rock which isn’t somewhere where the butterfly usually sits, we see butterflies around flowers, fruits and other bright places. The rock represents a person that is being compared to stone because when people say "that person's made of rock" or "that's a stone cold person" they usually mean that they're emotionless and don’t care about anything, but this layout shows otherwise. The butterfly represents emotion in different colours and the overall artwork is a representation of how the colorful butterfly (emotions) not only come to flowers (people who show emotion) but can also come to rocks (a person who's good at hiding emotions).   Layout:  Artistic intention:      Through this layout, I plan to bring out the concept of an overload of emotions and not able to decide on one of them to fully express. Each of the flowers show emotions in the language of flowers, for example, the lavender represents purity, the daisy represents attachment, the rose represents affection, the gentian represents gratitude, the lily represents virtue and the heather represents solitude. The hands at the bottom trying to catch the dripping emotions from the flowers show how the person isn’t able to pick an emotion to express leading them to getting influenced a little by all and creating mixed emotions in the end. Exploration: 1) Hands Drawing:      I tried drawing and shading the hands with soft pastels so that I get a basic idea of where it should be lighter and where the hands should be left dark.
