scratch art -2
As I had previously mentioned, this art form is the most time-consuming and permanent of them all. There is no way to undo a mark, once scratched, remains scratched. Which is why thinking and deciding what to create is the most difficult part of all. In most of my art, I usually start drawing with a simple idea in my head and go on with the flow to create the final outcome, obviously during this process I have to attempt and erase many times. But since this case I can't undo any action in any way whatsoever, I must have a clear idea of what to make, which is what takes up most of my time. Nowadays, since I've had nothing but time, I decided to put some effort and create something different.
Even though the basic idea of intricate designs remain the same from previous pieces, I decided to give this one a shape and meaning so that it can mean more than just a design.
Recently, Kerala witnessed the tragic death of a female elephant who also happened to be pregnant, she died after ingesting fruit with firecrackers inside of it leading to an explosion inside of her mouth. This news spread throughout the nation like wildfire, via news, petitions, social media etc. It was quiet evident that many citizens were concerned due to this horrific incident. But even after all that, one thing that isn't possible, is to bring back the two elephants that the world just lost. So the most we can do right now is respect them.
Elephants are large, majestic creatures known for their teamwork and clever mind. Since they are the worlds largest land animal, they might also seem quite intimidating at times, but they never mean to cause any harm. Despite knowing that, many of them are being either hunted or poached, people also collect elephant tusks as decor for their homes. Either way, this leads to decrease in the elephant population with only around 40,000-50,000 left in the wild classifying them as endangered by the WWF.
In this artwork, the main theme is clearly the elephant but along with that it also aims to show how simplest of things can form something beautiful. The objective of this artwork was not only to show the beauty of the elephant but also nature as a whole. The designs on the skin of the elephant are what make this artwork so special. Creating them took hours of effort and patience to finish but in the end that is what brought out the beauty in this piece. This represents that if one gives time to look at things, and genuinely appreciates it, they will get a whole new perspective to look at it from.
